What happens

Luigi Basco, a newly arrived immigrant, writes letters home to his mother in Italy about his life in America. His neighbor Pascuali tries to talk him into buying a farm in Kansas, and Luigi learns about freedom of speech through his night school class. His teacher, Miss Spalding, chooses him to give a talk on what freedom means to him at a citywide night school meeting. Along the way, Luigi is approached by a man from the Crusade for Freedom to sign a petition, and he begins to collect signatures himself. This is the Life with Luigi comedy series, first broadcast on September 19, 1950.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
