Riley and his family prepare for Thanksgiving, but his boast that he can shoot a turkey at a local match leaves him in a bind when the shoot is cancelled. Riley, Peg, Junior and Riley's friend Gillis are central to the story, which turns on Riley's bluster and his determination to save face in front of his wife. The Life of Riley aired on the Blue Network and NBC, with William Bendix in the title role, and this episode first went out on November 19, 1944. Riley arranges a plan that involves a trip to a remote cabin and an unusual hunting expedition with his son Junior. The story follows Riley's efforts to keep his boast alive through the holiday.

A town and the surrounding countryside around Thanksgiving, including a high school, a meat market, a remote cabin and a railway station.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
