What happens

Riley and his friend Jim Gillis bet on the big junior high football game between the Green Ghosts and the Maroon Mullers. Riley backs the Green Ghosts, and the stakes are dinner, a movie, flowers and a new hat. When Riley's son Junior is buried under algebra homework the night before the game, Riley decides to finish it himself. Later he visits Junior's algebra teacher, Miss Jessup, to plead for her leniency. The series The Life of Riley, first broadcast on November 12, 1944, stars William Bendix in the title role.

A small city neighborhood in the United States, centered on Riley's home and a junior high school.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
