What happens
Riley, a riveter at an aircraft plant, is frustrated by his low pay and the family's money troubles. He asks his boss Stevenson for a raise and is instead handed a secret design to deliver across town, which he is sent on after a mix-up. Riley then blasts the company over the loudspeaker, is ordered to apologize and refuses, and quits. His wife Peg and the children worry as he struggles to find work, and he eventually takes an oil job in Arabia. The Life of Riley aired on the Blue Network and NBC on January 14, 1949, starring William Bendix, with Paula Winslowe, Hans Conried and Alan Reed in the cast.
A California plant where aircraft parts are riveted, and the Riley family's modest bungalow.
Characters: Riley, Stevenson, Gillis, Peg, Junior, Becky
Listen for: Riley's pride keeps him from apologizing, and his family's reaction to his decision to quit.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
