What happens
Chester A. Riley, a riveter at a Los Angeles aircraft plant, argues over lunch with co-worker Jim Gillis about whose son is the most popular at John J. Boskowitz Jr. High School. Riley's son Junior wants to take Marilyn Morris to the pre-Christmas school dance but is too nervous to phone her. Riley tries to help by calling her himself, pretending to be a friend of Junior's, and the call goes badly. The episode is from The Life of Riley, broadcast on December 3, 1944, on the Blue Network and NBC, with William Bendix in the title role. Paula Winslowe, Hans Conried and Alan Reed are also in the cast.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
