What happens
Chester A. Riley, a riveter, comes home one Saturday to find his family seldom together, and his daughter Babs is embarrassed that their small house has no room for her friends to watch football on television. Eager to impress her boyfriend Richard Franklin, Riley takes home an expensive television set on a ten-day free trial, a purchase he cannot afford. His wife Peg and the family react to the news as the afternoon unfolds. The series, The Life of Riley, starred William Bendix as Riley, with Paula Winslowe as Peg and Alan Reed as Junior. The episode aired on October 28, 1949, on the Blue Network/ABC and NBC.
The Riley home at 13-13 Blue View Terrace, on a Saturday afternoon
Characters: Chester A. Riley, Peg Riley, Babs, Junior, Richard Franklin
Listen for: Riley's reaction when he learns the television set was delivered by mistake and realizes it is worth $2,300
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
