What happens

George Valentine is hired by banker Frank Emerson to find out why Myrtle Dane, secretary to recently deceased gangster Lefty Lumpert, has become terrified after a car accident. When George visits Myrtle in the hospital, she refuses to talk but cryptically mentions she's afraid of Lefty's 'angel.' George discovers a mysterious armed man trying to see Myrtle and realizes the case is more dangerous than it first appears.
