What happens
Private investigator George Valentine is hired by Gilbert Dressler, a desperate man recently returned from ten years in the desert, to investigate the influence of Madam Margot, a spiritualist medium who claims to contact the dead. Dressler fears that Margot's séances are draining his fiancée Gabrielle of her money and sanity following the death of Gabrielle's mother, Mrs. Turner. George and his partner Brooksie visit Margot's parlor to assess whether she is a genuine medium or a clever fraud operating an elaborate con.
A spiritualist medium's parlor in the city, filled with exotic furnishings, crystal balls, and occult paraphernalia; also flashbacks to George's past in North Africa.
Characters: George Valentine, Brooksie, Gilbert Dressler, Madam Margot, Haseem, Margot's assistant, Gabrielle Turner, Vida Paterson, Gabrielle's aunt
Listen for: George's skeptical investigation into Margot's methods, Margot's attempts to impress with her supposed psychic knowledge, and the growing tension between the séance participants.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
