What happens
George Valentine receives a desperate letter from Laura Burke, asking him to visit her husband Joe, an old army friend now confined to a sanitarium. Joe returned from an overseas job with an export company in a confused mental state following an explosion, unable to speak or move properly. George and his companion visit Joe at the sanitarium run by the mysterious Dr. Taruk, where something about the situation feels wrong to George.
A sanitarium in a remote valley, and the surrounding area; flashbacks to George's army days and Joe's recent work abroad.
Characters: George Valentine, Laura Burke, Joe Burke, Dr. Taruk, Rodney, Dr. Hunter, Brooks
Listen for: George's instincts about the sanitarium and Dr. Taruk; the mystery of Joe's true condition; the suspicious circumstances around the explosion; the significance of the face powder Joe gave to Laura.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
