What happens
Private investigator George Valentine agrees to help Bill Moran, a man being blackmailed by eastern gamblers into committing a crime. Moran asks George to impersonate him at a rendezvous at the Hawthorne hotel, claiming he doesn't even know what the job entails. When George arrives at the appointed place, he finds a man named Charles Clayton dying from a knife wound, and the secretary Theo Brown emerges from the next room, framing George perfectly for the murder.
A city with the Hawthorne hotel, Colonial Savings Bank, and the Samba restaurant on Doris Boulevard; takes place over one day and night.
Characters: George Valentine, Bill Moran, Theo Brown, Lieutenant Riley, Hollis
Listen for: The setup of an elaborate frame with threatening letters, fingerprints, and a convenient witness; George's theory that someone else is behind the murder and is using both Moran and the secretary.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
