What happens

George Valentine receives an urgent letter from Mona Chandler, secretary to Terence Doyle, Vice President of Consolidated Machine Tool Company, begging for his help. Doyle is in serious trouble—he's bought a gun for protection, received a mysterious package containing a broken gun as a threat, and is deeply involved in gambling debts. When George visits the office, he discovers financial irregularities and learns that Doyle has been acting paranoid and secretive. A phone call traced to the Club 50 suggests involvement with notorious gangster Starchy Bennett.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
