What happens

Private Dan Ferris, stationed in Japan, sends George Valentine money and a letter asking him to take out Lucy Rand on Christmas Eve as his proxy, write about it, and cheer up the lonely soldier. George discovers that Lucy is already committed to spending the evening with Walter Denning, a charming but questionable character who has given her a diamond ring and promises of marriage once his divorce is final.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
