What happens

Lou Mendel, owner of the upscale Club Top Hat, hires private detective George Valentine to find out who knocked him unconscious and stole a thousand dollars and a mysterious note. The case centers on Dove, a beautiful but guileless new dancer at the club, who seems to be at the heart of the trouble. When a landlord is found murdered in Dove's apartment, Valentine must untangle a web of blackmail, fake photographs, and desperation to find the real killer.

New York City, primarily at the Club Top Hat nightclub, Dove's apartment, and police precinct

Characters: George Valentine, Lou Mendel, Dove, Max, Lieutenant Johnson, J.J. Stopes, Andrews, Sergeant

Listen for: The clever detective work as Valentine pieces together clues from a photograph, a taxi meter, and the absence of fingerprints to catch the killer; the running joke about all the men who want to be Dove's 'big brother'

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
