What happens
George Valentine is hired by Mrs. Ames, who fears her husband is in danger. At the local club, Valentine discovers four men—Norton, Ames, Soto, and Chester—who have drawn cards in a rigged deck to determine who must confess to the unsolved murder of Dorothy Fulman from a year ago. The loser was supposed to confess and take his own life to end the town's suspicion that hangs over all of them.
A small town with a local club and the bluffs overlooking Dorothy Fulman's house where she was murdered a year prior.
Characters: George Valentine, Victor Ames, Mrs. Ames, Geoffrey Chester, Mr. Norton, Soto, Jimmy, Miss Brooks
Listen for: The revelation of how a marked deck of cards and a rigged drawing were used as an elaborate scheme, and Valentine's clever deduction about which card was truly marked and why.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
