What happens

Insurance investigator Johnny Dollar is hired to look into the murder of racketeer Priker, who was shot twice in his office at the Chairs Colet nightclub. Priker's partner Nick Schern stands to gain from the killing, but claims he was at another club when the murder occurred, with his manager Benny Stark vouching for him. A taxi driver claims to have seen a mysterious girl, Kathleen O'Dare, leaving the club minutes after the shots were fired, though she denies being there. Dollar must find O'Dare and convince her to talk before Nick Schern silences her permanently.

New York City, including the Chairs Colet supper club, police precinct, and various other clubs in the city.
