What happens

Johnny Dollar is sent by the Providential Insurance Company to the Tennessee and Missouri backwoods to settle a five-thousand-dollar life insurance claim left by Casper Crump, a policyholder who died under questionable circumstances. The company hopes the claim can be paid to Mrs. Yufa Crump, but the local moonshine country is hostile to outsiders. Johnny's rented car is shot up near a cabin in the swamp, and two rough men, Cass Dingle and Morphy Teens, take him in. Cass warns him about a man named Dave Whopper, and Johnny meets Mrs. Crump, who receives the money. This is the Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar series, first broadcast on CBS Radio on March 6, 1960, starring Bob Bailey.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
