What happens

Insurance investigator Johnny Dollar is shot at outside a theater in the Bronx and learns that Joe Panie, an ex-convict connected to a years-old case, may be involved. Following the trail to Long Island, Dollar discovers that Joe Panie's ex-wife is now married to wealthy Julian McCormick—and that Panie is dead, killed with a .25 caliber gun. As the case unravels, Dollar uncovers a web of blackmail, robbery, and betrayal that reaches into Allied Insurance's own New York office.
