What happens
Insurance investigator Johnny Dollar arrives in Baltimore to wrap up a case involving John Ridden, who supposedly died in a boating accident months ago. Dollar discovers that Ridden faked his death and has been living in Denver under the alias Frank Bowers, but Bowers was recently murdered along with one of Dollar's operatives. When Dollar returns to Baltimore with evidence that Ridden is alive, he finds that Ridden's widow Elizabeth has just married Ridden's attorney Hugh Bryan—and Bryan confesses that Ridden orchestrated his own disappearance.
