What happens
Jack Benny hosts a Sunday broadcast of his radio program, with Van Johnson as guest star. When Mary Livingstone fails to arrive at the studio, Benny learns she has gone to pick up Johnson, and the two drive around Beverly Hills while Benny and his cast wait on the air. The episode, from the Jack Benny series, aired on April 7, 1946 on NBC and CBS Radio, starring Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Eddie Anderson and Phil Harris. Once Johnson arrives, the cast introduces themselves and the show moves into a sketch parodying the film Weekend at the Waldorf, set at the Acme Plaza Hotel, where a house detective and several guests become entangled with Johnson, who has a reputation as a ladies' man.
A Sunday radio studio in Hollywood, the drive between Beverly Hills and the studio, and the Acme Plaza Hotel in the comedy sketch.
Characters: Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Van Johnson, Eddie Anderson, Phil Harris, Dennis Day, Don Wilson, Barry Livingston
Listen for: Benny's impatience over Mary's lateness and the car ride with Van Johnson, followed by the Acme Plaza sketch with its telephone operator and the Lana Turner phone call.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
