What happens

Jack Benny learns that Warner Brothers plans a feature film called The Life of Jack Benny, and the news goes to his head at a radio rehearsal. He leaves with Mary Livingstone and Rochester, and a rough drive and a parking-lot encounter with a former director named Herman set the tone. At the studio Jack argues with Danny Kay over old rivalries, then hears the studio chief propose casting Danny in the title role. Jack insists he should direct, write and produce the picture himself, and his assumptions are gently punctured at every turn.

A radio rehearsal studio, a Hollywood parking lot, and Jack Warner's office at Warner Brothers in Hollywood.

Characters: Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Rochester, Don Wilson, Hilliard Marks, Dennis Day, Danny Kay, Jack Warner

Listen for: Jack's growing conceit about the film of his life, Rochester's driving, and the exchange in Jack Warner's office where the studio proposes replacing Jack with Danny Kay.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
