What happens

Jack Benny prepares for his Christmas party and decorates a large tree in his library with Mary Livingston. Along the way, the guests he has invited are discussed, Phil Harris appears with his band, and Dennis Day sings a Christmas medley. Mary receives a letter from her mother, and Rochester answers the door with messages about guests who cannot attend. Benny's neighbour Mr. Billingsley is seen carrying a hatchet, and Benny is left unsettled by his behaviour. Benny also meets a young girl named Carolyn Lee, who has been picking oranges from a neighbour's tree. This is the Jack Benny program, broadcast on the NBC and CBS radio networks on December 21, 1941, with Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Eddie Anderson and Phil Harris in the leading roles.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
