What happens
Jack Benny prepares to attend a school play put on by the Beverly Hills Beavers, a children's club where he serves as treasurer. The kids are staging their own version of his radio program, with each child playing a member of his cast. Before the evening gets going, Jack and Mary Livingstone struggle with his old tuxedo, a flat tire, and a series of phone calls from Phil Harris about a band rehearsal and a record he has sent. Rochester, Dennis Day and others drift in and out with their own complications as the evening builds toward the performance. The episode is part of the Jack Benny series and was broadcast on NBC and CBS Radio on April 23, 1950, starring Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Eddie Anderson and Phil Harris.
Beverly Hills, at Jack Benny's home and later at the school auditorium where the Beverly Hills Beavers are performing.
Characters: Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Rochester, Phil Harris, Dennis Day, Don Wilson, Sam, Joey
Listen for: Jack's struggle with his old tuxedo and the flat tire, and Dennis Day's song Clancy Lowered the Boom.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
