What happens

Jack Benny and Mary Livingstone drive to the studio on a sunny Saturday, with Rochester at the wheel, and Jack banters about laundry mix-ups and his Academy Award hopes. At rehearsal Jack assigns his cast roles in a radio version of the film State Fair, casting himself as a farmer and Mary as his wife. The rehearsal follows the Peabody family as they prepare for the fair, with a hog, a mincemeat recipe, and a singing son. The Jack Benny Program aired on NBC and CBS Radio on January 13, 1946, starring Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Eddie Anderson and Phil Harris.

Los Angeles, on the drive to the studio and at a Saturday afternoon rehearsal, followed by a rehearsed radio play set at a farm and the Pomona Fair

Characters: Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Rochester, Phil Harris, Don Wilson, Larry Stevens, Lem Peabody, Mrs. Peabody

Listen for: Jack's mock-dramatic rendition of 'To be or not to be' in the car, and the rehearsed farm scene where Mrs. Peabody's mincemeat is spiked with brandy

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
