What happens

Jack Benny opens the New Year with his cast, Mary Livingstone, Phil Harris, Rochester and Larry Stevens, trading jokes about their New Year's Eve parties. Benny's bragging and Mary's teasing set the tone, and Don Wilson and the cast keep the banter going. Rochester calls with news of trouble at the house involving the new butler Nottingham, and the story turns to Phil's bet on the Rose Bowl game. Benny recounts his trip to the game, where he took Gladys, a drive-in waitress, and their evening went awry. The guide follows the early part of this episode of the Jack Benny Program, a 1946 broadcast on NBC.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
