What happens

Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Rochester and Phil Harris are sorting a heap of contest mail at Jack's Beverly Hills home in the days after Christmas. Letters arrive that are unkind about Jack, and a parrot named Polly keeps mangling her New Year greetings. Phil visits, Don Wilson and Larry Stevens drop by, and a visitor named Steve Bradley arrives to collect the contest prize money, which Jack fetches from a hidden vault. Later, Jack tells Mary a story about his own childhood school New Year's play. This is a 1945 episode of The Jack Benny Program, broadcast on NBC and CBS Radio on December 30, 1945.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
