What happens
Jack Benny hosts a dinner party at the home of Bob Crosby, whose wife June has urged him to stay home more after his many engagements. Bob invites Benny, who agrees to come on Saturday, and the story then turns to Benny's own household, where his valet Rochester is shopping and Dennis Day is asking to borrow money. The episode is from the Jack Benny series, first broadcast on 1955-03-27 on NBC and CBS Radio, with Benny, Mary Livingstone, Eddie Anderson and Phil Harris in the leading roles. A comic reading of the poem The Shooting of Dan McGrew later runs through the broadcast, with the cast acting out its scenes.
Beverly Hills, California, and the Crosbys' house on the edge of Beverly Hills, with a comic Alaskan Yukon saloon in a reading of a poem
Characters: Jack Benny, Bob Crosby, June Crosby, Rochester, Dennis Day
Listen for: Benny's phone call inviting himself to dinner, and the comic reading of The Shooting of Dan McGrew
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
