What happens
Jack Benny drives to the studio with Rochester, and along the way the car stalls and the two of them keep talking about trading it in. At the studio, Jack runs into Ed Wynn and notices Wynn's new car, then reminisces about their days together at the Palace Theatre. Wynn invites Jack to guest on his television show. Back at the studio, the cast argues over Wynn's comedy, and Don Wilson praises him to Jack's annoyance. This is the Jack Benny program, broadcast on November 20, 1949, with Mary Livingstone, Phil Harris and Rochester in the cast.
Los Angeles, California, in the car, outside the CBS studio, and in the rehearsal rooms of the Jack Benny program
Characters: Jack Benny, Rochester, Ed Wynn, Mary Livingstone, Phil Harris, Don Wilson, Larry Stevens, Dennis Day
Listen for: The running argument over whether Ed Wynn is the funniest comedian, and Jack's increasingly irritated reactions to it
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
