What happens

Jack Benny joins Don Wilson, Mary Livingstone, Kenny Baker and Phil Harris for an April Fool's-themed broadcast. Jack jokes about holding a ladder at Clark Gable and Carole Lombard's elopement, then complains about his new film Man About Town, where director Mark Sandwich keeps making him leap over furniture. Phil Harris is announced as a cast member, and Kenny Baker sings a song about a hot dog stand. Jack and Phil also perform a comic duet, and the broadcast closes with Rochester's pawning of Jack's bear. This 1939 episode of The Jack Benny Program aired on NBC and CBS Radio, starring Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Eddie Anderson and Phil Harris.

A radio studio broadcast, with a mix of studio talk, comic skits and musical numbers.

Characters: Jack Benny, Don Wilson, Mary Livingstone, Kenny Baker, Phil Harris, Rochester, Mark Sandwich

Listen for: Jack's complaints about the director Mark Sandwich and the leaping scenes in Man About Town, and Rochester's trouble over the pawned polar bear.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
