What happens

Jack Benny prepares for a trip while his household staff cleans up after a dinner party. Rochester and his friend Roy tidy the house, and talk turns to Rochester's wages and his plans to marry Susie. Jack chats with Polly, his parrot, and then Bob Crosby visits and asks Jack to play violin behind a screen on his television quiz. Jack's violin string breaks, so he walks to a music store to buy a replacement, where a salesman mistakes him for someone else.

Jack Benny's home in Beverly Hills, then a music store in the city.

Characters: Jack Benny, Rochester, Roy, Bob Crosby, Don Wilson, Polly, Susie

Listen for: Jack's stinginess, Rochester's complaints about his pay, and the mix-up at the music store.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
