What happens

Jack Benny hosts his Jell-O program, joined by Mary Livingstone, Phil Harris, Dennis Day, Eddie Anderson and Don Wilson. The show opens with a Jell-O commercial, then Benny and Wilson trade jokes, with Benny teasing Harris about his humor and his painting. Dennis Day sings an old Stephen Foster favorite, and Benny reminds everyone of the Thanksgiving dinner he is hosting. Mary Livingstone reads a poem about Thanksgiving, which she has written in place of a planned holiday play. The guests discuss the big turkey Benny has bought for the dinner.

A radio program broadcast in November 1939 in the weeks before Thanksgiving, with a studio show and banter about Benny's holiday plans.

Characters: Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Don Wilson, Phil Harris, Dennis Day, Rochester, Mrs. Day

Listen for: Mary Livingstone's Thanksgiving poem, and Benny's discovery that the turkey he bought may be an ostrich.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
