What happens

Jack Benny and his cast present a comedy sketch parodying the film Lost Horizon as part of the Jell-O program. Jack, playing himself, is whisked off by the mysterious Mr. Chang to Shangri-La, a paradise of eternal youth. There he meets Mr. Chang's family, Andy Devine, Kenny Baker and Phil Harris, all of whom have changed in comic ways. Jack is shown the palace, the gardens and a pool, and his wish-driven adventure turns surreal. The sketch is framed by the program's introductions, the jokes about Jack's Maxwell car and a Thanksgiving turkey, and a recipe segment for an orange and cranberry salad.

A radio studio during a Jell-O program, and the imaginary paradise of Shangri-La.

Characters: Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Don Wilson, Phil Harris, Eddie Anderson, Andy Devine, Kenny Baker, Mr. Chang

Listen for: Jack's arrival in Shangri-La and his meeting with Mr. Chang's family.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
