What happens

Jack Benny recounts his recent trip to Palm Springs in his old Maxwell with Mary Livingstone, sharing the car ride and a rough hotel bill with the program's cast. The broadcast then turns to a comic Western serial, in which Sheriff Buck Benny prepares for an election in Cactus County against his rival, Deadeye Cassidy. Phil Harris, Kenny Baker and Don Wilson take supporting roles in the sketch, with Mary Livingstone as Daisy Carson, Buck's sweetheart. This is the Jack Benny program from November 1937, broadcast by NBC and CBS Radio.

Los Angeles studio broadcast, then the fictional cow town of Rump State, Texas (Cactus County), with a Palm Springs trip recounted

Characters: Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Phil Harris, Kenny Baker, Don Wilson, Buck Benny, Daisy Carson, Deadeye Cassidy

Listen for: Jack describing the drive to Palm Springs in his Maxwell and Mary's mother's letter; later, the Western serial's election speeches and the mock gunfight

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
