What happens
Jack Benny closes his final broadcast of the season, a 39-week run, as he prepares to sail to England for a Palladium engagement. Mary Livingstone, Phil Harris and Dennis Day gather around him as he chats about the season, a prizefight, and the trip ahead. Rochester calls from Harlem about his own plans, and Fred Allen drops by the studio, offering to fill in for Portland Hoffa on his program. Jack objects, citing Mary's exclusive contract, and the two trade barbs before the broadcast closes. Part of the program was broadcast on NBC and CBS Radio in 1948, starring Jack Benny with Mary Livingstone, Phil Harris and Eddie Anderson.
A New York radio studio and a hotel in New York City, shortly before a sea voyage to England.
Characters: Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Phil Harris, Dennis Day, Rochester, Fred Allen, Don Wilson
Listen for: Fred Allen's visit to the studio and the exchange of insults with Jack Benny over Mary Livingstone's contract.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
