What happens
Jack Benny spends a Father's Day at the studio, where he is joking with his radio cast, including Mary Livingstone, Don Wilson, Kenny Baker and Phil Harris. Jack is due on a movie set, but he keeps getting delayed by his valet Rochester, his makeup man Mr. Westmore, and the bits of banter with his friends. On the set, director Walsh has Jack hide in a barrel and shout a single word at the right moment, a stunt that proves harder than it sounds. The episode is part of the Jell-O program series, and it first aired on June 20, 1937, with Jack Benny as its star.
A Father's Day broadcast of the Jell-O program, moving from the radio studio to Jack's dressing room and a movie set at the Paramount studio.
Characters: Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Don Wilson, Kenny Baker, Phil Harris, Rochester, Mr. Westmore, Andy
Listen for: Jack struggling to stick his head out of the barrel and shout "hey" at the right moment during the rehearsals.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
