What happens

On New Year's Day, Mary Livingstone and her maid Pauline tidy up after a party at Mary's Beverly Hills home. Pauline asks why Jack Benny did not attend. Mary explains that the story began the previous evening at CBS, after rehearsal, when the cast gathered in Jack's dressing room to toast the new year. Jack announces he has a date with a woman named Gloria and will not join the party, and the cast reacts with teasing and curiosity. The program was broadcast on January 1, 1950, on NBC and CBS Radio, with Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Eddie Anderson and Phil Harris in the lead roles.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
