What happens

Jack Benny and his company are in San Francisco to dedicate the new NBC studio building, and the program gives a playful tour of it. Benny, Mary Livingstone, Dennis Day, Phil Harris, Rochester and Don Wilson trade jokes about the building, the staff and the expenses NBC is covering. Benny then sets up a comic dramatic skit about the building's site, in which a gambler named Jack Hawkins runs a gaming house during the 1849 gold rush. The transcript breaks off partway through the skit, which is set in a saloon where a stranger arrives with gold dust.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
