What happens
On a Sunday, George Burns and Gracie Allen are at home and Gracie wants to hear the Jack Benny program on the radio. George is reading a book and keeps being interrupted by Gracie's comments and antics as they tune in. Gracie then decides she will go to the studio and take the place of a guest who did not appear, and she turns up there to be Lauren McCall. The broadcast around them includes Phil Harris, Dennis Day, Rochester and Mary Livingstone, with jokes about the bandleader's past, the quartet's arrangements and Rochester's trip to the races. The series is Jack Benny, and this 1947 episode from NBC/CBS Radio stars Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Eddie Anderson and Phil Harris.
The Burns and Allen home in Beverly Hills on a Sunday, and then the Jack Benny studio during the broadcast
Characters: George Burns, Gracie Allen, Jack Benny, Phil Harris, Dennis Day, Rochester, Mary Livingstone
Listen for: Gracie's repeated attempts to be the guest Lauren McCall, and Phil Harris's remarks about his bandleading days
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
