What happens

Jack Benny shows off his new spring wardrobe on the Jell-O program, and his cast mates Mary Livingston, Phil Harris and Kenny Baker each reveal their own odd outfits. Mary reads a rambling letter from her mother in Newark, New Jersey, full of family mishaps. Gracie Allen then arrives at the studio with a message for Jack from George Burns, but she cannot remember what it is. The program ends with a comic Western sketch, Buck Benny Rides Again, in which Benny plays a sheriff hunting the outlaw Cactus Kate while Daisy Carson, played by Livingston, sits in the middle of his romance. This episode aired on NBC and CBS Radio on April 11, 1937, with Benny, Livingston, Eddie Anderson and Phil Harris in the leading roles.

A radio studio during a Jell-O program, plus a comic Western town in Cactus County.

Characters: Jack Benny, Mary Livingston, Phil Harris, Kenny Baker, Don Wilson, Gracie Allen, George Burns, Buck Benny

Listen for: Gracie Allen's muddled attempts to deliver George Burns's message, and the Western sketch's running gags about Benny's poor eyesight.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
