What happens

Jack Benny hosts this 1933 episode of his radio show, which opens with a sponsor promotion for the Chevrolet radio contest and a run of comic mock news items. Edward G. Robinson makes a surprise appearance, chatting with Benny about his new baby and his screen career, and Benny and Robinson trade jokes about Hollywood. Benny then introduces a parody melodrama, Girls Leave Home, with Mary Livingstone, Blanche Stewart, James Melton and Benny himself in the cast. The early scenes set up a family in a kitchen, a daughter who will not leave home, and a suitor's late-night ladder visit, and the program is played for laughs throughout.

A 1933 radio broadcast, with a live studio audience and a comic news segment followed by a play set in an old homestead.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
