What happens
Jack Benny argues with his young singer Dennis Day over a raise, insisting Dennis earns a fortune per minute of singing while being paid $35 a week. The dispute drifts through talk of Fred Allen's offer, a 20-year contract, and sound effects brought in by Dennis. Later Jack sends Rochester to check on Mary Livingstone, who is ill, then arranges a new car and heads to the motor vehicle bureau to renew his driver's license. The license office brings a series of comic mix-ups, including an eye test and a driving exam with an inspector. The episode is part of the Jack Benny series, first broadcast on December 5, 1943, with Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Eddie Anderson and Phil Harris among the cast.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
