What happens
Jack Benny and his valet Rochester are decorating the Christmas tree at Benny's Beverly Hills home two days before the holiday. Their work is interrupted by a steady stream of visitors, including Mary Livingstone, Don Wilson, the Sportsmen Quartet, Phil Harris and Dennis Day. Jack and Rochester bicker over the tree, Mary leaves her gifts under it, and the guests trade jokes and small presents. The program is a Christmas episode of The Jack Benny Program, first broadcast on December 23, 1951, on NBC and CBS Radio, with Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Eddie Anderson and Phil Harris in the leading roles.
Jack Benny's home in Beverly Hills, decorated for Christmas
Characters: Jack Benny, Rochester, Mary Livingstone, Don Wilson, Phil Harris, Dennis Day, Ed
Listen for: The running wheelbarrow-and-Excelsior joke that Mary and Jack keep trying to finish, and Dennis Day's story about his uncle pulling a tooth as a Christmas present
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
