What happens

Jack Benny and his friends Mary Livingstone, Phil Harris and Don Wilson trade jokes as Christmas approaches and Jack grows wary of their sudden compliments. Phil and Jack banter over gifts and gambling, and Mary reads a letter from her mother in Plainfield describing a frozen winter and odd family news. Kenny Baker, unhappy about his girlfriend, is advised to buy her a Christmas present. Jack and Mary then go Christmas shopping at a crowded department store, where a floorwalker gives them confusing directions and Jack finds a talking Andy Divine doll. The episode is from the Jell-O program of December 12, 1937, on NBC and CBS Radio, and is part of the Jack Benny series.

A radio studio during the Jell-O program, and a crowded Hollywood department store in the weeks before Christmas.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
