What happens
Jack Benny hosts his Jell-O program, celebrating announcer Don Wilson's 16th anniversary in radio. Jack and the cast trade jokes about Don's pay, Phil Harris's hillbilly radio past, and Mary Livingstone's chatty mother, whose letter from Plainfield recounts family news. Jack then learns from Rochester that his polar bear, Carmichael, has caught a bad cold, and he hurries home with Mary and Kenny Baker, though not without picking up traffic tickets along the way. The portion of the broadcast presented here ends as they arrive at the house.
A radio studio during the Jell-O program, then the drive home to Jack Benny's house, where the polar bear Carmichael is sick in bed.
Characters: Jack Benny, Don Wilson, Phil Harris, Mary Livingstone, Kenny Baker, Rochester, Carmichael
Listen for: Mary Livingstone reading her mother's letter, and Jack's worried drive home and the policeman who stops them.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
