What happens

Jack Benny is late for his radio broadcast, so his cast mates Mary Livingstone, Phil Harris and Kenny Baker try to carry on without him. Benny finally refuses to come, and Harris takes over as master of ceremonies. Benny eventually relents and returns to the program, where the cast continues with their usual banter and musical numbers. The episode then turns to Buck Benny Rides Again, a Western serial in which Benny plays Sheriff Buck Benny, who pursues the outlaw Cactus Face Elmer. The broadcast is part of the Jell-O series, first aired on December 13, 1936, on NBC and CBS Radio, with Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Eddie Anderson and Phil Harris in the lead roles.

A radio studio during a live comedy broadcast, followed by the Western serial scene set in the Texas County sheriff's office and the Gem Theatre.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
