What happens
Jack Benny, as the oomph man of Hollywood, hosts a Jell-O program on NBC and CBS Radio, first broadcast on May 28, 1939. Mary Livingstone, Phil Harris and Eddie Anderson join him as Benny jokes about a Paramount picture, a changed ending and his butler Rochester. The show then turns to a parody of the 20th Century Fox film about Alexander Graham Bell, with Benny playing the inventor and Harris as his assistant. Kenny Baker sings, and a stolen car sets up another storyline.
A radio studio in Hollywood, and a parody of 1870s Boston, Massachusetts
Characters: Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Phil Harris, Eddie Anderson, Kenny Baker, Don Wilson, Alexander Graham Bell, Mrs. Bell
Listen for: Benny's stolen car and Rochester's report to the police, and the telephone experiment in Boston
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
