What happens

Jack Benny broadcasts his program from aboard the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga, anchored in San Francisco Bay, a few days before the ship sails for the atomic bomb test at Bikini Atoll. Don Wilson, Mary Livingstone, Dennis Day, Phil Harris and Rochester join him as the cast jokes about the crew, the ship and their own rivalries. Benny tries to explain atomic energy to Dennis, Harris complains about his band, and the group trades gags about the city's hills and fog. Later the show turns to the ship's history and a farewell message from the crew. This episode of the Jack Benny program, first heard on April 21, 1946 on NBC and CBS Radio, is a live-style comedy broadcast with music and sponsor-free entertainment.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
