What happens

Young F. Milton Gardiner seeks Paladin's help to negotiate the purchase of oil-producing property in Reward, California, offering him a royalty share. Paladin agrees on condition that Gardiner take his advice and not promise royalties to others. Upon arriving in Reward, they meet the suspicious Claude Spicer and his associate Doc Belldon, who claim another buyer is already interested in the land.
