What happens

Paladin is hired by Mrs. Flacker, a wealthy San Francisco widow, who has been robbed of $100,000 in jewels while experiencing a mysterious blackout. She finds sand in her shoes and damp clothing suggesting she left her room during the night, yet has no memory of doing so. An appointment with Dr. Dreckle, a phrenologist working in the hotel, appears in her engagement book in what looks like her handwriting, though she insists she never wrote it and doesn't know the doctor.

The Carlton Hotel in San Francisco, 1875

Characters: Paladin, Belle Whitney, Mrs. Flacker, Dr. Dreckle

Listen for: The mystery of Mrs. Flacker's missing jewels and unexplained night-time absence from her room; the suspicious Dr. Dreckle and the forged appointment in her engagement book

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
