What happens

Paladin accepts a $500 job to guard a shipment of $50,000 in gold traveling by stage from San Francisco to Los Angeles for a banker named McElrath. The money is meant as a loan to help a Los Angeles bank survive financial panic. Paladin poses as an ordinary passenger, with the gold hidden among the luggage, hoping to catch the bandits by surprise.
