What happens
When Marshal Dillon arrives at the Middleton home, he finds Doc in a tense standoff with Aaron Middleton over his wife Lucy's life. Doc believes Lucy is gravely ill and needs an immediate surgery to save her, but Aaron refuses to let the doctor operate, fearing the knife will kill her. Dillon must decide whether to back Doc's desperate medical intervention or respect the husband's wishes.

Characters: Matt Dillon, Doc, Aaron Middleton, Lucy Middleton, Chester, Jed
Listen for: A debate about medical intervention and a husband's resistance to surgery; Doc's story about Joe Majerich, the legendary steel man, as a parable about American freedom and strength.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
